CONCEPTUAL OBJECTS AND SPATIAL INSTALLATIONS
Something Bigger exhibiton - DDW26
Hi, I’m Kim. Through my work, I question our relationship with things we often take for granted.
I enjoy working with movement and a recurring theme is the tension between clock time and experienced time.
This Dutch Design Week, I’m showing three works exploring time: one keeps time only on average, another only for a moment. The third is a first study in which clock mechanisms let go of timekeeping altogether and simply show off their feathers.
Please get in touch if you’d like to know more.
Tempo rubato, literally “stolen time”, is the musical freedom to slow down or rush ahead, as long as the time is given back. This wind-driven timepiece does the same: depending on the wind, it stands still, runs ahead or falls behind. Only over longer periods does it become clear that, on average, it keeps pace with any other clock.

For ten minutes around each full hour, Chronesis keeps conventional time. Outside that window it drifts, slowing down, speeding up or briefly moving backward, the way time moves when we live it rather than measure it.
At irregular moments a sound breaks the flow, drawing attention back to the present.

SEKKAI SIBLINGS - Shy & Modest
Each table in this family begins as a single square sheet of stainless steel, cut and folded by hand, with nothing discarded.
Across the family I explore different surface treatments. In the burned finish, the colours come from heat: every shade records how hot, and how long, the steel was fired, so no two are alike.
